BALLROOM
FEVER –
a new musical
Opening
night: July 21, 2006
Featuring the hit song:
"Love Me Loosely"
Shall we dance? A lonely woman named Lurlene takes lessons at a dance
studio where people convene and learn about dance and life and have epiphanies.
Roger Calibassis is the elegant, unattainable, philandering dance instructor.
He also happens to be married to Mrs. Calibassis. The Mrs. catches Lurlene
dancing alone and singing a romantic song to an imaginary Roger with whom
she is in love.
Roger is quite the ladies man and tries to share his "business"
with his awkward students, namely Cymbeline. She has a father who is the
weird old janitor at the dance studio. He wants to use his daughter's
sexuality to elevate her to the queen/ruler of the dance studio, effectively
knocking Roger's wife and Lurlene out of the running.
Will Roger's power over all women be realized? Will the women accept this
and forgive Roger? Will
the janitor discover that the heart wins over greed?
Love is more than fancy footwork.
