The Der Höeffen family (Mama and daughters Illya and Hasta) is steeped in tradition. From the 'Dance of 9:22' honoring their grandfather to the panicöeken they prepare each day at their little bakery, life is steady and familiar.

But Illya is in love with Franz, a meticulous German whose entire existence is sharp angles – like those found on a waffle's surface. When thing are put on a waffle, they stay put. When things are put on a pancake, they roll away.

Will Illya follow Franz and abandon her family and the panicöeken? Will Franz soften, and find love for the short stack? Does anyone smell smoke?

In the end we learn that 'true love doesn't waffle.' (And don't forget to wipe your feet.)
